Seeing the quality of the power play last year they might need some on ice direction during games. However, now that we don't have Parise maybe some of the guys will pass down low without the fear of a stuff attempt that wont' work. |

Love that Scotty is ready to take the next step. From his comments he sounds really excited and likes the young defensemen we have. Love that hes more involved and will be on the bench. Hopefully his presence on the bench will develop more snarl from the back end. |

Todd Cordell: Devils Name Scott Stevens and Brad Shaw Assistant Coaches, My Thoughts - Todd.Cordell
“I think this is the deepest we’ve been on defense for young, upcoming defensemen in a long time,” Stevens said. “I don’t think we’ve ever had this kind of depth before.”
“He’s got his number hanging in the rafters in the rink and that’s the guy you want to be listening to when he’s telling you something,” Severson said. “So, I definitely try to take as much as I can out of him and he’s just giving me anything I can make myself better with because he wants me here. He’s going to help me as much as I can, so I definitely like hearing from him.”
One thing that has stood out about Black so far in this camp is his speed.
“He’s an unbelievable player, Scarlett said. “He’s got deceivingly fast speed. He basically burns by guys whenever he feels like it and he’s very smart in his own end."

But can Stevens teach , communicate and mentor? Gretzsky was a pretty good player but a pretty bad coach. |

I imagine Larsson is going to be trained more in the PP q-back role alongside Zidlicky for a slick one-two punch. If Larsson's really going to develop, I think he could even steal first pairing minutes away on the occasional power play. The way he moves the puck is tremendous at that age; all he needs is a slap shot in order to pose a threat and it'll open up so much ice for the other people who'll be going for the one timer like Kovalchuk and Elias. |

Will see but hes had a pretty good teacher, i think he will be a good coach. Oates was a hell of player and he turned out to be a great assistant. The jury is still out on Scotty as it will be his first time going behind the bench. Sames goes for Oates with being a head coach for the first time. |

You may be right, but consider that most leaders communicate best because they have awesome eyes that command a presence. While Gretzky wore a C, I didn't see him that much as a leader as compared to say, Mark Messier, Scott Stevens, Steve Yzerman. They said Robert E Lee had wicked eyes.
Well I'll tell who else has awesome eyes: Patrick Roy, and he won a memorial cup already as a head coach and it won't be long until he's coaching in the NHL. Now look at Stevens' eyes, his devil goatee, etc. You think he won't be a leader?
Maybe not! But he has handled responsibility before; he also worked with the development camp for years. He also knows both facets of the game as a former offensive defenseman who evolved into a big time hitter.
I trust him!

He's been teaching in the developmental camps over at least the last five years and regularly visits Albany to talk and teach with the defensemen there. |
